Types of Software

The term "software" was first used in this sense by John W. Tukey in around 1957-58. In software engineering, computer software is all computer programs.

Practical computer systems divide software into three major classes:

1. System Software

2. Language Translator/Interpreter/Compilers Software.

3. Application Software.
